Market Update Lisa Vargas September 30, 2026
The Dallas–Fort Worth area continues to prove itself one of the country’s most desirable places to live, work, and invest. In WalletHub’s 2026 study of 300 U.S. cities, four North Texas communities ranked among the nation’s 10 best real estate markets:
• No. 1 – Frisco
• No. 2 – McKinney
• No. 5 – Denton
• No. 8 – Allen
Frisco earned the top national ranking thanks to its strong economy, job growth, affordability, and large selection of newer homes. Nearly 47 percent of its homes were built between 2010 and 2024. McKinney followed closely at No. 2 and was also named the nation’s best housing market for first-time buyers. Denton ranked No. 5 overall, while Allen placed No. 8 nationally and earned the No. 1 ranking among small cities.
Several other DFW communities also performed well:
• No. 16 – Richardson
• No. 21 – Carrollton
• No. 22 – Fort Worth
• No. 40 – Irving
• No. 61 – Plano
• No. 71 – Dallas
• No. 103 – Garland
• No. 111 – Arlington
• No. 126 – Grand Prairie
• No. 195 – Mesquite
Among large U.S. cities, Fort Worth ranked No. 5, Dallas ranked No. 14, and Arlington ranked No. 22. These results reflect the continued strength of North Texas, supported by employment growth, new development, expanding communities, and a wide range of housing opportunities.
